Network CEO says eliminating the facts altogether allows laser-like focus on the all-important victim mentality, demonization of others, confirmation bias, and divisiveness.
In a brilliant move, fledgling cable news outlet UGTBN (for "Us Good, Them Bad News") cuts out the facts and fluff and condenses their content down to just the core, underlying message: "We're good, they're bad. We're right, they're wrong. We're smart, they're stupid". The new approach is earning the network top ratings in a media environment where viewers are tired of facts and analysis and just want their views confirmed and their tribe to "win".
Below is an actual transcript of a recent episode of UGTBN's show "Why You Should be Scared and Angry Today". Hosts Roger Mortain and Natalie Leland discuss a recent event of political or social or economic interest, or whatever:
Roger Mortain: Good evening ladies and gentlemen, we're glad to be with you and we're glad we're on the same team: the good guys team.
Natalie Leland: That's right, Roger, definitely good to be here, among the true people who see things the right way, while those other people are so dumb and wrong.
Roger Mortain: In today's news, a thing happened and we're going to tell you our view and why it's good and anyone else who says otherwise is bad. What actually happened is just details. What's important is that you know, if you're watching this, you're on the good team.
Natalie Leland: Yes, folks, it's incredible isn't it, how the other people who don't watch this channel, your channel, all hate us? They hate you and they hate me. They hate everything we stand for. Values. That's what it's about. Let's go now to our correspondent Jan Rankenhouse, who is reporting live from the scene of today's events. Jan, tell us more.
Jan Rankenhosue: Thanks Natalie. Something happened here today and you should be angry at "them". They made this happen by refusing to be on the same as us. That's about all you need to know from here on the scene. Back to you in the studio.
Roger Mortain: Well that wraps up our show for tonight. Remember: "Us Good, Them Bad". Stay scared, stay angry at those other people, because they're out to get you. Good night.
