This Statement of Integrity is posted as a commitment by the publisher of Eons News to uphold high standards of honesty in all postings on the Eons News website and social media.

Importantly, this Statement of Integrity is also posted here to serve as a challenge to others to commit to a similar set of tenets.

Statement of Integrity

Because the truth matters more to me than my own preferred conclusions, I will:

  1. Never knowingly make false statements.

  2. Never make claims about anything unless I also provide meaningful support for those claims.  For claims about aspects of science, I will provide references to research conducted in accordance with the principles outlined in this Statement of Integrity.

  3. Never misrepresent the work, the statements, or the viewpoints of others.

  4. Never continue to promote any concept, in science or otherwise, as being factually true, or likely true, if there exists one or more lines of evidence that indicate this idea is definitely not true or most likely not true.

  5. Never represent myself or my organization as doing “science” or “research” while engaging in behavior that violates a core principle of honest investigation.  For example, holding and proclaiming any form of personal, non-evidence-based, commitment to the truth of any particular answer to any particular question that I claim to be investigating.

  6. Never reference any source in support of my argument when the conclusions of that source contradict the argument I am making, unless I have provided substantial evidence to support my differing conclusion.  For example, I will not cherry-pick one statement from a scientific research paper to support my argument when the paper explicitly or implicitly supports a contradictory conclusion, unless I can provide evidence of at least equivalent quality to the evidence used in the paper.  (Noting that if I really do have evidence that the paper is in error, the appropriate thing to do would be for me to raise the issue with the publishers of the paper, rather than to post about it on social media or my website).

  7. Always acknowledge anyone’s notification that they have found a false statements or factual, logical, or other errors in my work (website posts, tweets, articles, etc).

  8. Always correct false statements and errors in my work by either editing my work to remove them, or retracting the work altogether if the false statements / errors are fundamental to the conclusions of the piece.
